Building Structure and Hazard Mitigation Center 

The center aims to reduce the amount of building construction materials used and to mitigate the building hazards caused by fire, underground construction, and landslides.  The utilization of high-performance structural steel and concrete, as well as newly developed structural elements, will make it possible in future to reduce the usage of structural materials by an estimated hundreds of thousands of tons per year.  The Fire Safety Technology R&D Team is designing new-generation building fire evacuation systems and related equipment, with about 10 patents developed so far.  The Building Structure Disaster Prevention R&D Team is targeting building safety during foundation extraction and tunnel construction in urban areas, in addition to disaster prevention for building structures on hillsides, work that has produced two "electro-osmosis ground improvement technology" patents so far.
