Welcome Message In our contemporary high-level society, civil engineering structures are expected to be designed to meet long-term requirements related to structural safety, robustness, serviceability, durability and sustainability. Life-cycle civil engineering provides the knowledge and tools to accommodate for these requirements and relates to the design, inspection, monitoring, assessment, maintenance and rehabilitation of structures and infrastructures taking into account their lifetime perspective. The last decades there is a growing awareness of the importance of a life-cycle perspective in civil engineering and challenges exist to tackle the contemporary needs, for example related to the long-term prediction of material behaviour and structural response, the assessment of existing structures, inspection and maintenance strategies, life-cycle optimization, etc. Considering these needs, the objective of the International Association for Life-Cycle Civil Engineering (IALCCE) is to promote international cooperation in this field of expertise. IALCCE Organization and Conferences Mission of IALCCE IALCCE is a young Association founded in October 2006. Its activities encompass all aspects of Life-Cycle assessment, design, maintenance, rehabilitation, and monitoring of civil engineering systems. Mission of the IALCCE Conferences The mission of IALCCE 2018 is to bring together all cutting edge research in the field of Life-Cycle Civil Engineering and so to advance both the state-of-the-art and state-of-practice in the field. IALCCE 2018 The sixth International symposium on Life-Cycle Civil Engineering 2018 will be held at the International Convention Center Ghent (ICC Ghent) from October 28 to 31, 2018. The symposium is organized on behalf of the International Association for Life-Cycle Civil Engineering (IALCCE) under the auspices of Ghent University. Robby Caspeele, Luc Taerwe and Dan M. Frangopol will serve as Symposium Chairs. Previous Confererences
Everybody interested in any aspect of Life-Cycle Civil Engineering is invited to participate. Participation will be profitable to university researchers, representatives from all sections of civil engineering, engineers working with companies, consultants, contractors, and representatives from local authorities. Besides promoting their own research and professional work, participants will learn about and discuss the latest accomplishments, innovations and potential future directions in Life-Cycle Civil Engineering and connect with each other in order to build innovative and lasting networks and collaborations. We are looking forward to welcoming you at the IALCCE 2018 in Ghent. ![]()
