Civil engineering technology constantly innovates: internationally, sustainability has become a very important issue in recent years, reliability analysis has gradually begun to be considered in engineering design, and construction cost has also considered life-cycle cost instead of initial cost only.

To improve technology and visions of domestic civil engineers, Alfredo H-S. Ang, Director of TBTC, especially held the “International Symposium on Risk-Based Life-Cycle Engineering” on October 23, 2009 and invited international renowned scholars to participate in.  The symposium was not only a great opportunity to domestic engineers for experience sharing, but also a technology enhancement for civil engineering of Taiwan Tech.

Topics & Speakers -

  • On Structures
    Prof. Dan Frangopol -
Life-Cycle Performance and Cost of Structures and Infrastructures under Uncertainty: An
    Integrated Approach
  • Prof. Armen Der Kiureghian -
Enhanced Bayesian Network for Reliability Assessment and Updating of Structural Systems.

    Prof. Y.K. Wen -
Lifecycle Cost-Based Design against Natural Hazards

  • On Geotechnical
    Prof. Wilson Tang -
Bayesian Method: a Natural Way to Process Geotechnical Information
  • Prof. Robert Liang -
Geo-Hazards Management System (GHMS) for Landslide and Rockfall Risk Abatement
