An agreement between HAWTech, an association of Germany's six leading Universities of Applied Sciences in the fields of engineering and technology, andTAItech, its Taiwanese counterpart, was signed in July 2017. From 4 March to 8 March 2019, a high-ranking delegation of the HAWTech institutions' senior management came for a week-long visit to Taiwan, touring all six TAItech member universities and holding discussions on the future cooperation between the two alliances. On March 5th, the eleven-member delegation was welcomed at Taiwan Tech, not only by president Liao Ching- Jong, all Vice-presidents, and the Head of International Office, but also by the Deans of all six Colleges of our school. As a matter of fact, Taiwan Tech has already set up successful exchange programs with three HAWtech members - Hochschule Karlsruhe, Hochschule Esslingen, and FH Aachen – so discussions focused on deepening the cooperation on “value-added features”, such as double-degree programs. Visits to the Taiwan Building Technology Centre and the Industry 4.0 Implementation Centre gave our German guests a chance to further explore common fields of interest, particularly in the fields of architecture, civil engineering, and smart production technologies which are also of key research areas for most HAWtech members. As Vice-President of Hochschule Karlsruhe, Professor Angelika Altmann- Dieses, emphasized: "Taiwan will certainly play an important role in the future planning of our institution's internationalization. We have had excellent experiences with Taiwan Tech in the field of student exchange for more than eight years, now we have to build up this and start into a new phase of collaboration.” The first HAWtech and TAItech Roudtable Meeting was held on 6 March 2019 at National ChinYi University (NCYU), Taichung with a new Memorandum of Understanding signed by NCYU president Chen Wen-Yuan, Representative of TAItech and by Klaus Semlinger, Deputy Representative of HAWtech, and Rector of HTW Berlin.
